Airline delays and baggage issues are more common than ever. Most standard travel insurance and airline policies do not fully cover the extra costs that affect your water taxi transfer specifically.
Dolphin Travel Insurance is a simple, optional add‑on that protects just the most fragile part of your trip: your arrival into the BVI by water taxi from St. Thomas (STT).
This protection applies to your inbound leg only and is priced per person, per one‑way transfer.
Why standard travel insurance may not be enough
Many guests assume their regular travel insurance or credit card will cover everything. Often it does not:
- It may not cover private water taxi replacement costs if your flight is late.
- It may not cover the extra ground transportation if you’re forced to overnight in St. Thomas.
- Baggage delay coverage often doesn’t pay to move your bags on to the BVI once they finally arrive.
- Our standard policy only refunds 50% of your water taxi fare if your airline lands after about 5:30 p.m., when it’s usually too late to get you into the BVI that night.
- Dolphin Travel Insurance is designed to fill those specific gaps.
What Dolphin Travel Insurance covers
Delayed Bags Delivery ($15 per person)
What’s covered
If your airline delays your luggage and it doesn’t arrive with you in St. Thomas (STT):
- Dolphin will deliver up to 4 bags per person to your final destination in the BVI.
- Typical delivery is within 36 hours after we receive your bags from the airline at STT.
When this helps
- Your flight arrives, but your bags don’t.
- Instead of waiting in St. Thomas or coming back yourself, you continue to the BVI, and we bring your bags to you.
Overnight Flight Delay Coverage ($20 per person)
What’s covered
If airline delays push you past the usual BVI Customs entry window (typically when your flight lands after about 5:30 p.m.), and we cannot get you into the BVI that night:
- Complimentary land transfer from STT airport to your St. Thomas hotel that night.
- Morning pickup from your hotel back to the water taxi.
- A replacement water taxi on the first available departure after Customs opens (between 9:00 a.m. and noon), to get your vacation back on track as quickly as possible.
Note: This coverage does not pay for your hotel room itself. It covers the transportation and replacement water taxi portion of your journey.
Full Transfer Protection ($30 per person: Best Value)
Full Transfer Protection combines both benefits:
- Delayed Bags Delivery (up to 4 bags per person, delivered to your BVI destination), and
- Overnight Flight Delay Coverage (transfers and replacement water taxi the next morning).
This is the simplest way to protect your arrival against the most common airline‑related issues.
Your choices at booking
When you pay for your water taxi, you will be asked to select one of the following:
- $15 – Delayed Bags Delivery
- $20 – Overnight Flight Delay Coverage
$30 – Full Transfer Protection (Best Value) - We’re Already Covered

- You may cancel Dolphin Travel Insurance before travel for a 100% refund of the protection cost. No hassle.
- Your water taxi fare itself remains subject to Dolphin’s standard cancellation and refund policy.
